Cross the river from Kittery and you're in York — and something shifts. The pace slows, the coast opens up, and the accents change. York is four historic villages knit together: York Village, York Harbor, York Beach, and Cape Neddick. Each has its own character, its own beach, and in many cases its own zip code within a zip code. Forty-seven single-family homes were on the market when I wrote this, at a median list price of $895,000 — the largest and most diverse inventory of the Batch 1 towns. Homes here stay listed longer than the New Hampshire side of the river, partly a reflection of York's coastal, second-home character. The right listing to the right buyer is a slower conversation.
